Traditionally, the game of Poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. Depending on the type of game, the cards are dealt face down or face up. A dealer deals the cards to the players in rotation.
In poker, players bet on their cards and collect the pot if their cards win. The winner is the player with the best hand. This can be a straight, flush, four of a kind, or five of a kind. In some games, a joker counts as a fifth card.
Poker cards are ranked from Ace to Ace. Some games allow the use of Wild Cards, which take any suit. Typically, a wild card is a jack of spades. Other poker variants use a single pack of cards or multiple packs.
When the cards are dealt, the player to the left of the dealer has the right to “call” or raise a bet. The dealer can also “cut” the cards. If the dealer cuts the cards, the next player must put in the same number of chips as the previous player.
The player to the left of the dealer is then responsible for discarding the cards. The dealer then deals the cards again. This process is repeated until all players have folded.
If there is a tie, the higher card breaks the tie. A pair of kings is not great off the deal, but a pair of kings is good off the deal.
